Character Name: Hanayo Koizumi
Character Canon: Love Live! School Idol Project
History: woop woop
AU History:
Hanayo was born in Union and has lived there all her life. Ever since she was a little girl, she's been a big fan of Pokémon coordinators and has been an equally eager follower of the contest circuit. She's always dreamed of entering a Pokémon contest herself someday, but because of her inherent shyness, she's never been able to get up the courage to seriously try. She does practice singing and dancing with her own Pokémon, and is even working on training a few of them to perform together, but as of yet they've never performed in front of an audience consisting of anyone besides her best friend Rin Hoshizora. Rin and Hanayo grew up together, having been friends since childhood, and while Hanayo never made a secret of her admiration for Pokémon coordinators, probably only Rin recognizes how seriously she still wants to become one. In the meantime, Hanayo has a part time job working at the Breeding Center, as she actually has something of a talent for working with young Pokémon and taking care of eggs until they hatch. Some of the employees there have heard her softly singing to the eggs she's tending to, but as Hanayo always clams up when she hears someone coming, no one knows it's her for sure.
Canon Personality:
Hanayo is very shy, quiet, and polite. She generally prefers to avoid conflict whenever possible, and tends to avoid giving her opinion on things if she thinks it would rock the boat. Because of this, she has a tendency to get dragged along by other people with stronger personalities who are more willing to assert themselves, like her childhood friend Rin. Even after deciding to change herself by joining µ's, she is the most comfortable in supporting roles, although she does become somewhat more outspoken along the way.
Despite her usual demeanor, Hanayo turns into a completely different person when idols are involved. She has loved idols since she was a little girl and it's always been her dream to become one someday, although initially her shyness stands in the way of this dream. Her knowledge of idols is second only to Nico among the members of µ's, but her enthusiasm for them has no equal, and her personality becomes loud and excited whenever she is talking about them, looking at idol-related merchandise, or watching their performances.
Hanayo's job at school is taking care of the pet alpacas. She is the only person shown to be able to calm down the brown male, revealing her calming nature. She is good at working with both animals and children, showing her to be patient, caring, and understanding to others. Despite her own awkwardness, she is good at helping other people work through their problems and is also someone who others feel they can confide in. This is shown by the fact that Rin trusts her enough to reveal her complex about her looks, which is something Hanayo helps her get over in Season 2.
Overall, Hanayo is someone who believes in her friends and will always be there for them no matter the circumstances. Taking this even further, she draws her own strength and motivation from watching her friends try their hardest at something. She initially asks Rin to join µ's with her because she's unsure of herself, but this is really just an illustration of Hanayo's tendency to surround herself with passionate people who she can look up to and use as an example to improve herself. By believing in her friends and working alongside them in pursuit of the same dream, she can believe in herself too, and is able to work much harder and achieve much more than she ever could alone.
AU Deviation:
Hanayo's personality isn't too much different from her appearance in early canon. She's still shy and soft-spoken, and still lacks confidence in her ability to perform. And instead of being the ultimate idol fangirl, this version of Hanayo is obsessed with Pokémon contests and the trainers who compete in them. The main difference is that here she already has an outlet for her desire to express herself in the form of training her Pokémon to sing and dance instead. Also, since there's no impending school closing or anything similar to worry about, Hanayo doesn't possess any sort of immediate impetus to begin actively pursuing her dream. Taken together, this means she's a lot more complacent since she's actually already halfway to her goal. On the other hand, actually becoming a Pokémon coordinator is much more common in this world than becoming a famous idol is in Hanayo's original canon, so it's less of a pie-in-the-sky sort of dream on her part and will be easier for her to pursue once she finally decides to do so. It will mostly be a matter of overcoming the inertia of her current situation, which is honestly pretty comfortable for her right now.
Canon Abilities: Singing, dancing, being moe.
Enlightened Abilities: Hanayo is Far From Ordinary, with the secondary ability Egg Mastery. As such, she does not have any type of her own, but is slightly better at raising and training Pokémon of the Normal type. She does not own any Enhanced Items.
Starter Pokémon: Happiny, Magby, Kricketot
Notes/Special Considerations: Hanayo's preexisting connection to Rin has been approved by that player. Otherwise, nothing special here.
SAMPLES
NOTE: Hanayo is still very hesitant about pursuing her true dreams and goals, even though she talks enviously about Pokémon coordinators and contests. There are also a lot of things she thinks about that she wouldn't necessarily say out loud. Her actual thoughts will be represented in italics after her verbal answers, if applicable.
-What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
They're my important friends. We live together, work together, play together, and... th-that's all, really! (I can't say I'd like for us to sing together, too... they'd just laugh at me.)
-What do you feel your role in Union is?
I'm happy with just supporting others. If I can help them reach their dreams, that's what I want. (Because my own dream is... n-no, I shouldn't be thinking that way.)
-What do you seek for humanity's future?
The future, huh... [Hanayo looks thoughtful for a moment.] I think it would be nice if everyone could get along and smile together. That's all I'd really wish for.
-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
I don't know how much help I would be, but I'd certainly try my hardest...!
-What would you say the most important occupation is within Union?
Pokémon coordinators! [The answer comes fast and loud - uncharacteristically so for someone who's barely been audible for the other questions.] They're amazing, don't you think? They work so hard to make people smile! Watching them shining on the stage with their Pokémon... ahhhhh, there's nothing like it! (I wish I could be like that someday.)
-What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
I think... I think it means if you try your best and believe in what you're doing, you'll always be able to reach peoples' hearts.
-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
I like people who are kind, confident, and who can be honest with their feelings. Those are the people I admire the most. (Like Rin... I wonder how she does it.)
-The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?
M-me...?! C-can't they pick someone else to talk to?
-What strengths make you most qualified for your role within Union?
I-I don't think I'm anything special, really... There are a lot of people who help out at the Breeding Center. I'm just doing my part to pitch in. (That's right... this is all I can do right now. That's enough, isn't it?)
-No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?
Um... I've always thought Fairy types were very cute. The way they move is very graceful and elegant, so... [Hanayo smiles awkwardly, blushing a bit as her voice goes even quieter.] ...I-I think that's how I'd like to be, if I could.
